Lesbian child custody battles and heterosexual divorce
My friend Mike Thompson in Austin just sent me this column by Glenn Sacks on "Lesbian child custody battles and heterosexual divorce". Sacks illustrates how many of the worst things about child custody cases, which fathers have been complaining about for years, are increasingly also being reported in some gay child custody cases. People who are all-consumed with gay issues, on both sides, might reflexively take these families' stories as anti-gay cannon fodder, but I don't think that's the point at all. Rather, these cases bring attention to the all the awful things people do to push the other parent out of a child's life, and they let us see them without the filter of gender politics, since they aren't about men oppressing women or vice versa.
