It is rather strange that the German Judge found it appropriate to uphold an obscurantist passage from the Koran to turn down the wife's request. The wife's request for a speedy divorce could have been equally well turned down on some legally relevant ground. In fact, the German Judge appears to have no inkling that under the Islamic law (Shaariat), marriage is but a contract, which the wife is equally free to terminate AT ANY TIME, subject to the condition that she cannot re-marry until three clear menstrual periods have passed ( to verify that she was not pregnant with her husband's child at the time of the divorce, known as KHULLA ).
