Maldives claims world's highest divorce rate: 1.1% per capita per year

(Might be better expressed as 2.2%. considering that one divorce involves two people.) Caution: I don't know exactly what the U.N. data source is, but it uses a U.S. rate from sometime in the 20th Century, over one-third higher than our current rate.

According to a report prepared and issued by the UN, the divorce rate in Maldives is 10.97 divorces per 1,000 inhabitants per year. After Maldives comes Belarus with 4.63 and then United States with 4.34.
